Melissa LaForge (nee Kasian) – Class of 2002
About Melissa
Melissa is the current Vice President (Controller) at WestJet. She graduated from Miles Mac with the IB Diploma in 2002. After studies at the University of Manitoba she moved to Calgary to pursue Accounting. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant and is currently completing her Executive Masters in Business Administration. She is married with two children.
Melissa has fond memories of Miles Mac and the IB program. She is still close with many of her classmates and loved her time on a school trip to France as well as her work on Student Council.
On the IB she notes: “The intensity of the program requires effective time management and the best thing IB gave me was the ability to manage many competing priorities, both inside and outside of school. Going through the program with other students taught me how to build relationships and work collaboratively with others, which is critical in the working world.”
